To encourage adoption of electronic health record (EHR) technology, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes financial incentives for health care providers and professionals who can demonstrate “meaningful use” of electronic health records.
